Columbia Sportswear has signed on as an official supporting sponsor of the 2026 Kilimanjaro Premium Lager International Marathon, marking a strategic alignment with one of East Africa's leading endurance events.
The partnership, facilitated through local distributor Hudson Group, positions the global outdoor brand alongside a race that has grown into a key fixture on the regional athletics calendar, attracting both elite athletes and international participants.
Set near Mount Kilimanjaro, the marathon has developed into a globally recognized event while maintaining strong local participation - offering brands a platform that combines international visibility with community engagement.
Hudson Group Marketing Manager Nicola Balbo said the partnership reflects a deliberate strategic fit between the event and the brand's positioning.
"We have strategically chosen to support the event together with Columbia, recognising its prestige, legacy and growing international recognition."
Balbo pointed to the race's terrain and setting as aligned with Columbia's performance-driven identity.
"Its iconic setting and international appeal make it a natural fit for a brand like Columbia, which is rooted in exploration and performance in challenging environments."
As part of the sponsorship, Columbia will activate across the event footprint, including distributing branded shoulder bags to all participants - extending brand visibility beyond race day.
Balbo also highlighted execution quality from organizers as a factor in their decision to come on board.
"The level of organisation, efficiency and coordination has been impressive. Their structured approach has ensured the partnership is well aligned from the outset."
The move comes as global sportswear companies increasingly target endurance and outdoor events as part of broader expansion strategies.
Balbo added: "This is about delivering value while building meaningful engagement with both local and international audiences."
The 2026 Kilimanjaro Marathon is scheduled for March 22 in Moshi, Tanzania, with organizers continuing to scale international participation through structured partnerships and global marketing support.
Columbia's entry may show potential for deeper involvement in future editions, including technical sponsorship opportunities tied to its growing focus on trail running and endurance sports.
