Ivory Coast is set to deepen its global sports marketing strategy through a new tourism partnership with Chelsea FC, as the West African nation continues using elite football clubs to promote international travel and investment.
Under the agreement, Chelsea players are expected to wear the "Sublime Côte d'Ivoire" tourism branding on club apparel in the coming months, according to multiple reports including one from Africa Intelligence. The partnership aims to position Ivory Coast as a tourism destination in key European markets.
The deal follows similar international sports marketing partnerships on the continent such as Visit Rwanda with the LA Clippers and LA Ram. Ivory Coast tourism recently signed with French clubs Olympique de Marseille and Stade Français, reflecting a broader strategy by the Ivorian government to leverage global sport for destination promotion.
The official partnership is set to be announced at the end of March. Chelsea's selection carries strong symbolic significance for Ivory Coast. The club is closely associated with Ivorian football legend Didier Drogba, who spent nearly a decade at Stamford Bridge and became one of the most influential African players in European football.
The partnership also indicates Ivory Coast's intention to expand the "Sublime Côte d'Ivoire" campaign beyond France and into the UK and Irish tourism markets, leveraging the global reach of the Premier League.
