NBS Bank has upped its sponsorship of the 2026/27 National Division League (NDL) by 96 percent - from K270 million ($150K) to K530 million ($300K) - in a major boost for Malawian football development.
The bank's Head of Marketing, Frank Magombo, said the move reflects a deeper commitment to the league and FAM's Transforming the Game agenda. He described the NDL as more than just a competition, calling it "a national stage" where Malawi's next generation of players is being quietly identified and developed across every district.
NBS Bank plans to use its presence at match venues to drive financial inclusion. The bank will activate its Easy Wallet and mobile banking platform at fixtures across all four regions, targeting communities with limited access to formal banking services.
FAM Vice Chairperson of Competitions and Marketing, Daud Ntanthiko, revealed the original sponsorship figure was set at K320 million before the bank stepped up. "Because NBS Bank truly believes in the growth of football, they have almost doubled that figure to K530 million," he said.
Ntanthiko also pointed to the NDL's rising quality — all teams promoted from last season's edition remained unbeaten after two matches in the elite league and cleared club licensing requirements.
Under the sponsorship package, the 2026/27 NDL champions will receive K25 million, while each participating club gets K20 million in subvention plus two sets of uniforms.
