The Rwandan government and football authorities have taken a significant step forward in the country's sports development agenda with the official inauguration of the first of 10 planned football pitches under the FIFA Arena Project.
The ceremony, held at Kagarama Secondary School in Kicukiro, brought together Minister Nelly Mukazayire, Secretary General of FIFA Mattias Grafström, FERWAFA President Fabrice Shema, and Stéphane Le Brech, who jointly unveiled the facility in what marks the beginning of a nationwide infrastructure drive.
The 10 pitches, set to be built across the country, are expected to serve as vital hubs for talent identification and grassroots sports development, giving young Rwandan athletes greater access to quality playing facilities.
The inauguration ceremony extended beyond the pitch itself. The delegation also officially opened a new FERWAFA accommodation facility in the Remera Sector of Gasabo District, a project made possible through funding from the FIFA Forward Programme.
Capping off the occasion, football boots were distributed to young players under FIFA's Boots for All initiative - a programme designed to remove financial barriers and ensure that promising talent is not held back by a lack of basic equipment.
