FIFA World Cup 2026 Set for Full Distribution Across Africa via SuperSport
SuperSport, part of MultiChoice Group and a CANAL+ subsidiary, will broadcast all 104 matches of the expanded FIFA World Cup 2026 across English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa, marking one of the most extensive tournament distributions on the continent to date.
Coverage will be available across DStv and GOtv platforms, including streaming services, with access extending from entry-level packages through to premium tiers.
The 2026 edition, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will run from 11 June to 19 July and introduces a 48-team format, expanding the total number of matches from 64 to 104. The format change increases both inventory and monetisation opportunities for broadcasters through advertising, sponsorship integrations, and extended programming.
African Representation Drives Audience Strategy
Africa will send a record 10 teams to the tournament, including Ghana, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, and South Africa. The expanded representation is expected to drive stronger regional viewership and advertiser demand across key markets.
SuperSport will complement live match coverage with additional programming — including magazine shows and expert-led analysis — designed to increase total watch time and deepen audience engagement.
Rendani Ramovha, Director for Content and Sport at CANAL+ in English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa, said: "We are thrilled to announce that our subscribers will get to witness yet another historic FIFA World Cup on SuperSport. With Africa sending its biggest-ever contingent, we are proud to bring Africans the biggest global sports showpiece in the quality they expect."
He added: "As this is the most anticipated FIFA World Cup from an African perspective since 2010, we are excited that more people will be able to watch through accessible packages, while also delivering broadcast features tailored to local cultures and languages."
Strategic Positioning in a Competitive Rights Market
The full tournament distribution underscores MultiChoice's continued investment in premium football rights as a core driver of subscriber retention and acquisition, particularly as competition intensifies across streaming and free-to-air platforms in African markets. SportyTV has also secured South African broadcasting rights for the FIFA World Cup 2026, and will stream all 104 matches on the platform.
