Mitsubishi Motors SA Renews AmaZulu FC Sponsorship With Seven Vehicle Handover

Mitsubishi Motors SA has handed over seven vehicles to AmaZulu FC, deepening a sponsorship that already covers match day branding and a fan voted player award with a fleet upgrade for the Durban club's players and staff.

The handover took place at AmaZulu FC's annual awards evening, where Mitsubishi Motors SA sponsored the player of the season prize. The winner drove away with the use of a Mitsubishi Outlander for a quarter. Six further vehicles, an Xpander, an Outlander Sport, a second Outlander, a Pajero Sport and two Triton bakkies, have been made available to the club on an ongoing basis as part of the sponsorship.

"AmaZulu FC enjoyed a strong finish in the PSL league this season, and the team's performance throughout the season has been impressive. Mitsubishi Motors SA value all the partnerships we have, and it was a privilege to be part of the teams' annual awards ceremony. We were honoured to share the stage with Club President, Mr Sandile Zungu, in presenting the Player of the Season award," says Takalani Bruce Mukhola, Managing Director, Mitsubishi Motors SA.

The carmaker also backs the Ambitious Player of the Quarter award, which puts the shortlist to a public vote, and holds stadium branding rights for home fixtures.

"From the streets to the stadium, this partnership is about moving forward together, backing South African talent and driving the spirit of the game. It is also about building a lasting legacy and celebrating a rich heritage that is deeply valued by both AmaZulu FC and Mitsubishi Motors SA," Mukhola adds.

Solving Operational Problems

Vehicle sponsorship deals do not need broadcast rights or a shirt deal to get in front of a football audience; a fleet of branded vehicles ferrying players to training and back is a rolling advert that costs a fraction of what stadium naming rights or kit sponsorship would command, and it comes with a far more useful by-product: real logistics support for a club that, like most in the PSL, is not swimming in commercial revenue. AmaZulu FC’s, six cars and a rotating Outlander for the player of the season solve an actual operational problem rather than sitting on a balance sheet as brand exposure alone.

Fan Access and Visibility

The return for Mitsubishi, is access to a fanbase that skews toward exactly the working and middle class buyers the Xpander and Triton are built to reach, delivered through a club with a loyal KwaZulu Natal following rather than a blanket national campaign. The timing matters too. Mukhola only took over as Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors SA in February, and renewing rather than trimming a football sponsorship this early in a new leadership tenure is itself a signal about where the brand intends to keep spending and growing. Pairing the deal with AmaZulu FC's back to school campaign gives Mitsubishi a CSI story to tell alongside the commercial one, which matters more to South African boardrooms than it once did. None of this depends on AmaZulu FC winning silverware. It depends on the club staying visible, staying local, and staying in the news which a functioning car fleet and a fan voted award both help deliver.
