Netstar, a subsidiary of Altron and a leading provider of vehicle tracking and telematics solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with the Sunshine Tour to develop advanced performance analytics and tracking technology for professional golf.

The collaboration will apply Netstar's telematics and data analytics expertise, traditionally used in vehicle tracking and fleet management, to help golfers gain deeper insights into their on-course performance.

The technology being developed will combine wearable GPS tracking devices, shot capture tools operated by tournament markers, and an analytics dashboard designed to deliver performance insights across six key areas of the game, including scoring, driving, approach shots, short game, putting, and strokes gained analysis.

The system is expected to enable players and coaches to analyse shot dispersion, accuracy trends, and strategic decision-making, supporting data-driven player development over time.

According to Werner Kapp, CEO of Altron Group, the partnership reflects the company's broader strategy of using data and technology to develop new applications across industries.

This initiative represents another step toward adopting data-driven performance tools increasingly used across global golf tours, including benchmarking capabilities against players competing on the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour.

Thomas Abt, Commissioner of the Sunshine Tour, said the collaboration will help ensure South African players remain competitive globally as technology continues to reshape professional golf.

The partnership will officially begin with the 2026/27 Sunshine Tour season, with pilot implementations scheduled at the Investec South African Open Championship and the Joburg Open before a broader rollout across select tour events.

The Sunshine Tour has historically produced some of South Africa's most successful golfers, including Gary Player, Ernie Els, Retief Goosen, and Louis Oosthuizen, and the new technology initiative aims to further strengthen the country's pipeline of global golf talent.
