Skechers to Set to open Footwear Factory in Algeria in collaboration with Tradifoot

U.S. sports footwear giant Skechers is heading to North Africa. The brand has confirmed plans to build a production facility in Algeria through a partnership with local company Tradifoot, targeting both the domestic market and broader export opportunities across Africa and the Mediterranean.

Tradifoot announced the project on January 31 at the International Brands Exhibition Made in DZ, describing the venture as "a strategic partnership with the international brand Skechers" to develop a modern sports footwear factory.

The 22,000-square-metre facility will be located in Bab Ali, roughly 20 kilometres west of Algiers. Production is set to begin in 2027 at 300,000 pairs per year, with plans to scale to 2 million pairs annually by 2031 - a near seven-fold increase in output over four years.

On jobs, Tradifoot projects 450 positions in the factory's first phase, growing to 1,500 as capacity expands. The company framed the initiative as a bid to advance the Made in Algeria movement and "position Algeria as a regional production and export hub."

Skechers - which sits alongside Nike, Adidas, and Puma among the world's top sports footwear brands - currently distributes across around 180 countries and manufactures primarily in Vietnam and China. The company was taken private by investment fund 3G Capital in September 2025 in a $9.4 billion deal.

The Algeria plant would represent a meaningful step in onshoring production closer to African and Mediterranean consumers, a dynamic that aligns with growing continental demand for internationally branded sportswear.
