The UAE Basketball Federation and the Royal Moroccan Basketball Federation (FRMBB) have signed a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating basketball development across both countries and deepening Arab sporting ties.
The deal was inked on the sidelines of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) Sahara Conference, currently in Rabat - a fitting backdrop for an agreement with clear regional ambitions.
A New Flagship Competition
At the heart of the agreement is a new annual fixture - the UAE-Morocco Super Cup, pitting the top basketball champions from each country against one another. The competition is designed to raise performance standards while building cross-border connections between players and fan bases, with both federations positioning it as a marquee event on the Arab basketball calendar.
Both sides committed to advanced training programs for coaches and referees, friendly matches between clubs and national teams, and joint training camps. The agreement also includes mutual logistical support during international competitions - a practical add-on that indicates the relationship is built for the long haul.
Arab federations are pooling resources and expertise to grow the sport regionally. With Morocco's BAL presence lending Rabat increasing visibility as a basketball hub, the timing of this partnership is no coincidence - and could set a template for similar bilateral agreements across the continent.
