EGYPTAIR signs three-season deal to become FC Barcelona's official airline partner

EGYPTAIR has signed on as a new Global Partner of FC Barcelona, taking exclusive official airline rights across the club's men's football, basketball and handball teams through the 2028/29 season. The three-season agreement also puts the airline's logo on the front of the handball team's match jersey, giving EGYPTAIR shirt-front visibility in a sport where Barcelona compete at the top of the European game.
The partnership makes EGYPTAIR the "Exclusive Official Airline" across all three squads, a broader remit than a standard team sponsorship and one that ties the carrier's branding to Barcelona's travel and matchday operations. EGYPTAIR, sits inside a wider fleet expansion and route-network push the airline has been running, and the club frames the partnership as part of that commercial push into new travel corridors.
Barcelona, for its part, is treating the agreement as a market-access play. The club said the partnership offers a chance to extend the Barça brand's global reach, connect with new markets and reinforce its position as one of the world's most influential sports properties.
Marc Bruix, FC Barcelona's Global Sponsorships director, said: "Connecting FC Barcelona with EGYPTAIR, a benchmark for excellence and history in international aviation is a natural step to take in our expansion. This sponsorship reinforces our commitment to take the Barça values and passion to our followers in the Middle East and Africa, where we have an amazing fan community."
Captain Ahmed Adel, president of EGYPTAIR Holding Company, said: "Sponsoring one of the most prestigious clubs in the world, the current LaLiga and Spanish Super Cup champions is an unprecedented achievement in the history of our national airline. This collaboration sees the 95-year history of EGYPTAIR dovetail with the global sporting leadership of FC Barcelona, opening new horizons to connect with football fans around the world".
EGYPTAIR was founded in 1932 and is headquartered in Cairo. The carrier flies to more than 85 destinations across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America, holds Star Alliance membership, and runs the EGYPTAIR Plus loyalty programme. The airline says it is mid-way through a transformation strategy covering network expansion, fleet modernisation, passenger experience, digital transformation, strategic alliances and sustainability.
Globally Recognisable Badge and Fandom
An Egyptian state carrier buying its way onto a top European club's shirts and travel operations is a different kind of transaction than the Gulf carrier deals that have dominated this category for two decades. Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad built their football sponsorships around geopolitical soft power and tourism ambitions backed by sovereign wealth. EGYPTAIR is a national flag carrier mid-transformation, and this deal reads more like an operational growth plan than a state branding exercise. The airline gets a globally recognisable badge to put in front of a market it already serves heavily: Barcelona's own framing leans on "Middle East and Africa" fandom, and EGYPTAIR's route map runs directly through both.
The value for FC Barcelona
The value for Barcelona, is less about the fee than about which audience the club getting exposure too. A club chasing its next major sponsorship cycle needs partners who bring distribution into markets where its commercial team can't yet monetise fandom directly, and North Africa is one of the densest, least-tapped fan bases in world football relative to sponsorship spend. Handing a Egyptian carrier front-of-shirt space on the handball team, a sport where EGYPTAIR's Star Alliance network actually intersects with competitive travel, suggests the deal was structured with real logistics in mind rather than just a badge swap.
If EGYPTAIR's partnership pays off in ticket sales, route bookings or loyalty sign-ups tied to the Barcelona relationship, expect other African carriers with continental ambitions, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, RwandAir, to look at similar top-tier European sponsorships as a way to buy global brand recognition than building it destination by destination.
